In Memoriam

At Lesley Elizabeth, our story isn’t just about bold flavors—it’s about the incredible people behind the scenes who helped build this company with love, laughter, and resilience. One of those people was Cathy Moore.

Cathy worked at Lesley Elizabeth for over 10 years before passing away in 2004 after an inspiring four-year battle with stage 4 breast cancer. Her spirit, dedication, and joy helped shape the foundation of who we are as a company—and she continues to inspire us every day.

A Legacy of Strength and Joy

Cathy wasn’t just a coworker—she was family. The mother of two beautiful children, Josh and Amelia, Cathy was known for her sass, humor, spontaneity, and a laugh that could light up a room. Whether she was working hard in the warehouse or enjoying a "damn good margarita" with friends, she brought energy, strength, and heart to every moment.

She chose to undergo her cancer treatments at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, drawn to their advanced therapies and compassionate care. Cathy even participated in experimental treatments—not just to fight her own battle, but to help pave the way for future patients.

Giving Back in Cathy’s Honor

To honor Cathy’s life, her legacy, and her bravery, Lesley Elizabeth donates a portion of proceeds from each bottle of our Limited Edition Wicked Good Salt sold during the month of October to the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Memories from the Heart

We’ve collected some of our fondest memories of Cathy—funny, emotional, and unforgettable—from the people who knew her best:

“Cathy bravely sported a headscarf at a food show, and a competitor came out of her booth just to hug her. That kindness lit up Cathy’s day.”
Lizzie, Founder

“Cathy was right about everything—even when she said my screaming toddler would calm down in five minutes. She had a way with people.”
Wendy, Co-Founder

“She once gave me a Macadamia Nut Lei in Michigan just so she could say, ‘Now I’ve lei’d you!’ She had the best sense of humor.”
Rupert, President

“We devoured apple strudel in NYC for four nights straight and laughed ourselves silly. Cathy never wanted pity, just real connection and joy.”
Sally, COO

“On days I didn’t feel well, I’d go to work anyway—because Cathy would be there. She showed me what true courage looks like.”
Mary, Former Colleague

Forever Part of Lesley Elizabeth

Cathy’s love for her family, her adventurous spirit, and her unwavering positivity live on in our company’s culture, values, and people. She reminded us what really matters—compassion, humor, and showing up for others, no matter what.

We miss you, Cathy. And we carry your light with us every single day.
